The Technology Foundations Instructor reports to the Vice President and is responsible for the development and coordination of the remedial and developmental program provided by the institution to include the following content areas: math, reading/language, and critical thinking. The instructor must be able to guide students with identified deficiencies in specific basic skills through an instructional application program (WIN Learning)) and track students’ progress accordingly. Assessment and evaluation of skills levels necessary for the student’s success in occupational programs will be a responsibility of the Technology Foundations Instructor. The Technology Foundations instructor will also assist in administering various certification tests for different programs to help students obtain additional industry recognized credentials. Institutional required certifications could involve group or individual teaching.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related subject area from an accredited college or university;
· Strong organizational, mathematical, language, and writing skills;
· Ability to teach Basic Math (Algebra, Geometry, Trig), Reading Comprehension, and interpret workplace data in the form of diagrams, charts, graphs, etc;
· High level skills in oral and written communication;
· Evidence of strong work ethic as it relates to timeliness of reporting, oversight of multiple on-going projects, and the ability to work with others;
· Proficient computer skills;
· Ability to deal tactfully with the students, public, and co-workers; to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions; and
· Possess a valid TN driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
· Prior teaching experience, especially in a postsecondary setting for three years.
· Tennessee teaching license.
· Knowledge of learning systems platforms such as Work Keys, WIN Learning, and NCRC.
Responsibilities
The Tech Foundations Instructor is responsible for the following:
Guide students in selection, perception, and performance of suitable learning activities.
Organize class time effectively and efficiently in order that learning activities can be accomplished.
Start and end class at designated time.
Utilize individual and/or group instructional procedures appropriate to the requirements of the assigned activities and the students’ needs.
Maintain a well-organized, safe, and clean shop and/or classroom.
Investigate and make a full report on every accident on the day the accident occurs, using the “Preliminary Accident Report Form.”
Be responsible for equipment, tools, and supplies assigned to shop and/or classroom.
Maintain an inventory of equipment, controls storage, repair, and usage of materials to minimize loss or abuse.
Keep and share with students continuously updated records of attendance and competencies acquired during their enrollment.
Evaluate each student’s progress at multiple intervals during each trimester and complete permanent records.
Requisition equipment, supplies, materials, and instructional aides as needed, working within the perimeters of school guidelines and available funds.
Participate in seminars, workshops, and conferences.
Meet deadlines of yearly mandated training.
Perform other duties directly related to career and technical education as assigned by the Vice President.
